If you would like to know what Sri Lankan music was in the 70s and 80s here's a few songs that were popular those days. No orchestra, no electronic effects, just the Tabla, guitars, sitar, flute etc. Very different from the music today.
I'll post the links only, not the videos, as they are not in English, and hardly would anyone be interested in them here. But if you wish to check them out you can just open the link on youtube and listen to them.

Hindi songs are also popular in Sri Lanka. Many of the oldest Sinhala songs esp in the 50s etc. have been composed to Hindi song tunes that were popular those days. Even today Hindi songs have a huge fan base in Sri Lanka.
