Long ago (in 1992 as I can remember) I read about Blood's theft in a book named "In Search of London." It implied that it was King Charles himself that employed Blood to steal his own regalia because he was in debt. However, while being led away by the army, Blood looked over his shoulder at the Captain, and said something like "although failed it was to gain a crown." lol.
