NCT's Iron Chef #49 Phyllo Dough.

I ran the generator and it came up.

As with the other ICs, this is a challenge to ourselves. There is no judging, and no winner. We are ALL winners in this since we will all benefit from the creativity and new recipes that this challenge will bring us.

The rules are simple, this challenge is open for 7 days (week of 4/11/10 - 4/17/10). During that 7 day period, make any kind of dish you want, however you want. Drink, Appetizer, Main Course, Dessert, etc. The only stipulations are that you must use Phyllo Dough in some way in the dish, and it must be something you have cooked during the 7 day period of this challenge.

Once your dish is ready, it’s a good idea to make a new post with your recipe. Then, post a link and a picture of your recipe to this thread. Alternatively, if you like, post your recipe and pictures here. In the end, we will compile all the results into one thread for easy searching.

Now, let Battle Phyllo Dough begin!

I'm thinking baklava.....anyone else giving this one a go'round?

I plan to try this one this weekend.

I haven't had spanikopita in ages.

I'm pretty sure I'm in. I've got the phyllo, just not sure what it will be.

I'm still leaning towards the baklava only because I've been stressed to the breaking point and the Madame needs something sweet!

I had considered wrapping a piece of fish and then baking it, as well. However, I'm having an open house on Sunday and cannot have the place smelling like the middle ages in July.

Phyllo Seafood Triangles - For the filling, I made a sherry/cream sauce with diced shimp, mushrooms, shallots, and Old Bay. Used two half-sheets of phyllo for the wrap. They look bigger than they really were because they're on a salad plate. I tried to get an inside shot, but the phyllo was just too crumbly.

I've got a lot of phyllo left, so I'm thinking about making some cigar type appetizers filled with cream cheese and black olives, maybe some with cream cheese and jalapenos, and maybe some with pimiento cheese filling.




I also wanted to try making the little phyllo purses (you can see the edge of one on the pic below). Only made two....they're a pita (can't easily brush on the butter). We like the triangles better.

I know my pictures are late...hell, I haven't posted a thing since I started popping that viagra two days before easter...

but, when I get home this afternoon I'll post everything that's still lurking in my camera.

Vera, if I had know you were feeding the prospects, I'd have gone house hunting this weekend. Next time, a little advance notice, if you please!

I have to prove to the prospects that miracles can happen in a kitchen the size of a postage stamp!!

I got home too late, and was too tired, so I still didn't bake my spanikopita.

I have pics of it assembled from Sunday, but I won't have baked pics until (maybe) tomorrow. Good thing this isn't a contest with rules - I'd have missed the deadline for sure!!!!!

OK. I'm late. I know I'm late. I warned you I'd be late. But i spent a lot of time on this, and damn it, I'm gonna post my pics.

beautiful SS!! i haven't made the nice big ones in years. i make the little 2 bite size appy's. now i am going to have to make them. LOL
