March 26, 2008 - WASHINGTON, (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Tuesday announced the recall of Backyard and Beyond-brand metal water bottles due to a safety hazard.

The CPSC said approximately 18,000 recalled Chinese-made bottles, distributed by Downeast Concepts Inc. of Yarmouth, Maine, contain excessive levels of lead, violating the U.S. lead paint standard.
The recalled metal bottles had the model numbers -- 67402, 67404, 67442, 67444, 67742, 60442, 67744, 67746, 67748 or 60448 -- printed on a hang tag. The bottles have a black plastic sip-top and were sold nationwide in green, pink or blue with assorted animal or insect graphics on the exterior from February 2006 through February 2008 for about $8. Consumers can return the bottles to the store where purchased for a refund or contact the company at 800-343-2424 for more information.
