Shelf Life of Rendered Duck/Goose Fat?

Since I always render my own duck & goose fat, was wondering about the refrigerated shelf life since I just discovered a container of it in the back of my extremely cold fridge (so cold, that some things towards the back tend to freeze - fridge is old & on the way out).

I've kept frozen rendered fat in the freezer for 2 years, but it's a pain to chop off what I need, & I always have way too much to do the ice-cube-tray thing, so I've been keeping it in the fridge. Since rancid fat is something you can't miss, even when cold (the smell is unmistakeable), I have never had any problems (& have never had any go rancid), but just wonder what everyone's thoughts are on this.

I've done a websearch, & the concensus on refrigerated shelf life of rendered goose & duck fat ranges from 4 weeks to at least a year.

Any thoughts?
