"Left coast".

Also, how come I never hear the east coast described as the "Right coast"?

And while I'm on the subject of annoying terms (yes, I know I'm frequently am on that subject) when did "The Prom" become "Prom"?

And when did wedding "gowns" and prom "gowns" become "dresses"?

sigh.

Lee I'll take a shot at this. The left coast California, Oregon, Washington are all blue states. Hence the term "left coast" I have never heard the term right coast probably because there are so many states and some of them red states and some of them blue, that would be my guess.

I use the term because it fits... and I live in Southern California.

Thanks for the reply, Guts!

Because of it, I looked up the term http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_Coast

I prefer the "west coast", which also fits. :good:

Oh, Kim, you are a doll to offer! I really appreciate it!

But if people stopped saying all the expressions I hate, no one would EVER say ANYTHING!!

LOL!

Please, continue being you!

LOL. With such a good group of people here. And I do not want to bring politics into this group at all. There's other places I can go to discuss politics, that's all I have to say about this. Almost sorry I even replied at all. I've been on food forums since 1996 and I've seen boards blow up and destroy themselves over lesser issues.respectfully Kim from the west coast.

Kim, that is exactly how the expression started. Unless we are talking politics I just say from California or Tarzana.

Just bumped into a new one that I utterly hate.

Starts with a funny story though. I was at Publix getting a few things, and as I was in line checking out, I'm looking at the magazines. The current "Family Circle" had a cover about grilling and claimed to have several recipes. I looked closer, and the mag was only $2.79! Most mags today are 4.99 to 6.99 or more. So I thought, what the heck and grabbed it.

The girl checking me out look to be a high school teen, and the lady behind me was in her late 20s to early thirties. My Family Circle mag was the last thing in my line of items. Once the girl got to the mag, she looked to the lady behind me and said "Ma'am, is this magazine yours"? She shook her head, and then they both slowly turned and stared at me. I shrugged my shoulders and nodded. :yum:

The mag is ok. It has a little bit of cooking in it, but is predominantly about all other aspects of family life, especially raising kids. They use the term:

Tween

They use it a lot. I mean a WHOLE lot. That word apparently refers to kids between the ages of 9 & 12 (preteen).

And. I. Utterly. HATE. That. Word!!

It grates my nerves to see it. It sounds so much like a bad porno classification. Whoever coined that word should be shot.

after reading this thread. I am afraid to even post here :yum::yum::yum:

I am guilty of so many of them.

Being a Nail Technician for the last 20 years , I have such a problem with the word 'Paint' your nails. You paint a house, you POLISH your nails. Irritate's the hell out of me.

I have no problem telling a person who ends the sentence with AT, Like 'where is it AT' , I say its between the A & T. :yum:

Ditto what Andy said!

And, BTW, what aggravates the last couple of posters does NOT bother me.

(yeah, I know! I can hardly believe it myself)
