A Goldberg Machine is that thing you just posted. It is a complex series of mechanisms and movements that ultimately do a very simple task....in your video, all of that was to open the curtains. It's named after Rube Goldberg a cartoonist and engineer.

in high school, we use to have an awesome science teacher... he use to "make" us listen to all kinds of different things... we got to build one of these(mind you not as complex)

The old board game Mouse Trap was basically a Goldberg Machine. There was some question on the legality of Glass using the design, but Goldberg declined to take action against him.
