I did find one mention of these - albeit "sprinkled" with 10X

dried pitted dates -

honey roasted almonds - or flavor of your choice....
stuff the dates with the almond
roll liberally in powdered sugar.

dates for some reason often get bad rap - but these are really tasty....
perhaps from a simpler era....?

I agree C-man - dates are delicious!

That does look like an easy candy so serve as a dessert anytime, actually.

the Belgian version would cost you an arm and a leg in Paris.
stuff the date with green colored marzipan.
dip in hard crack boiled sugar syrup,
....think along the lines of candy apples.
put the dates on a toothpick to dip, drop onto a papered sugar scattered tray to cool, the sugar prevents it from sticking.

the quick version is just stuff them and roll in dried dessicated coconut, good but not as good as boiled sugar version.
