I find that Anise is one of those polarizing flavors people love or hate.

I love it... Black Jellybeans, Sambuca, Mukhwas, Unicum, Licorice etc

It is also one of the spices in Asian 5 spice seasoning.

Five Spice Powder
5 teaspoon ground anise (aniseed)
5 teaspoon star anise
1 cinnamon stick (5) in cassia bark
2 tablespoon whole cloves
7 teaspoon fennel seeds
Using a blender, process all ingredients until finely ground. Store in an
airtight jar up to 3 months.

Not fond of Anise. It's OK in some things but Ouzo and Licorice, No.

I'm not fond of Fennel either. Give me sausage with fennel and I'll eat it without comment, If asked I'll say.

I it's one of those Druthers things.

EXECPT!
Something magical happends to anisette when its in espresso. Not sure how that works out that I like that.... go figure!

I love licorice and ouzo. My Mother used to buy fresh anise once in a while, loved that too. My BIL is Greek, years ago we visted my sister at UC Davis. They took us to a Greek nightclub in Sacramento, where George got me started drinking ouzo with him. Of course, being a good Air Force troop, my hollow leg stood us in good stead and I was the one able to drive home....
