Here's another poker night special - this is one my mother used to make and it's great!

12 small Vidalia onions, thinly sliced
2 cups water
1 cup sugar
1 cup vinegar
1/4 to 1/2 cup mayonaise
1 tsp. celery salt
1 loaf party rye bread

Combine first four ingredients. Marinate overnight in fridge. When ready to serve, drain and pat dry. Toss with mayo and celery salt. Serve on party rye bread. Delish!

Okay, now I have a friend who hosts Poker Night at his house once a month. He ALWAYS makes ABT's and his buddies love them.

This sounds like an easier snack, but how do you serve them on poker night, Ian? Do you spread the mix on the pary rye then put them on the plate? Or let the guests do that themselves?

Do you toast the bread?

I know Ed would have to add Tabasco to the mix.

Hi, Lee - Hey, good to hear from you - been a while!

About the onions....Usually, when poker night is at our house, every man for himself is the general rule of thumb. As far as toasting the rye, I always suggest it but again, everyone does their own thing with them. Some of the guys are leery of eating all that much onion at one whack - so it's kind of a mixed bag. I've never put out toabasco but someone always pulls the Texas Pete out of my fridge! Same difference, I guess.

Hope you're having a good week....take care,

Ian :wow:
