Orzo with Bacon and Asparagus

6 slices heavily smoked bacon
2 tbsp bacon drippings
1/3 to 1/2 c onion, chopped
1 (14 oz) can chicken broth
1 c orzo, risotto or rice
8 oz fresh asparagus spears, cut in 1" pieces
1/2 c fresh grated Parmesan

Cook bacon until crisp. Crumble and set aside. Cook onion in bacon drippings until tender. Add broth and bring to a boil. Add orzo (depending on if you use orzo, risotto or rice, you may have to add some water to make amount of liquid required in box directions.) Reduce heat, cover and cook until orzo is done.

add asparagus, cover and cook until asparagus is done to the consistency you desire. Put in serving bowl and sprinkle with crumbled bacon and cheese.
