Athens Foods, Inc. Recalls Beef Products Due to Misbranding and Undeclared Allergens

WASHINGTON, Nov. 6, 2015 – Athens Foods, Inc., a Cleveland, Ohio establishment, is recalling approximately 168 pounds of beef products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The product contains soy, known allergens which are not declared on the finished product label.
The steak fiesta, beef filled dough, items were produced on Sept. 23, 2015 and have a best by code of 11/23/16. The following products are subject to recall: [View Label (PDF Only)]

  • 4 count trays of “Athens Steak Fiesta Blossoms.”
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 34306” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to foodservice locations nationwide.
The problem was discovered during labeling review by the firm who then notified FSIS.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify theircustomers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
