Steel cut oatmeal in the crockpot

Success!

The first time I ever made oatmeal overnight in a crockpot, it burned in the bottom (the newer crocks are hotter).

Then I found this link http://annkroeker.wordpress.com/2008/03/25/overnight-crockpot-steel-cut-oatmeal/ which describes putting a bowl of oats with water in a heat-safe bowl (I used Pyrex), placing the bowl in a crock, and pouring water around it, making a bain marie.

I tried it last night, put it on low for 10 hours, and this morning when I came down to breakfast, it was all ready and cooked perfectly!

I'm so tickled! And now I have 3 more portions to microwave for breakfasts the rest of the week!

I put brown sugar and fat-free Half and Half on mine. Excellent!

This was the first time I've ever tried steel cut oats and I like 'em a lot!

I love steel cut oats, too, Lee, but they take so long to make on the stove. I will absolutely try this! What an awesome idea. It would be perfect for my boys when they have 7am classes. Thanks, girlfriend!

I do, too. I always changed the 3 Bears bedtime story to oatmeal instead of porridge because the word made all of us giggle.

I'm on my second day of reheated oatmeal - so cool! 2 minutes in the microwave.

I have to break it up into clumps, but I kind of like them!
