Greek Pastitsio (pasta with lamb)

  • 1 pound dry ziti pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 5 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1lb ground lamb
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 table spoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Italian spice
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • salt and pepper , garlic powder and onion powder to taste







  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Bring a pan of salted water to a boil. Add pasta. Cook until soft.
  3. Melt butter and pour over your noodles
  4. Then add 1/2 cup of the Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper and the rest of the spices . Then mix really well, Let this mixture cool and then add eggs and mix it all up again. Put aside for now.
  5. SAUCE: Brown your lamb burger and then add onions and garic. Cook until nice and soft. Then add all your liquids and keep cooking until it's nice and thick.
  6. Cream sauce. Melt 1/2 cup butter in a medium sized pan, add ap flour and cook for two or three minutes. Add your milk all at once then bring to a boil ( don't stop stiring!!) Add all your spices. Let this cool and then add the other egg. Add 1/2 of the cream mixture to your meat sauce and mix well.
  7. Putting it all together. Prepare a 9x13 inch glass dish. Mix meat sauce with the pasta and add to prepared dish. Top that with the white sauce and then sprinkle with more Parm cheese.
  8. Bake for 50 minutes or until the white sauce is a nice brown color.
  9. cool for 10-15 minutes before eating.
Great served with a Greek salad and French bread.

So do I. I thought we'd have leftovers but... David and Shannon showed up in time for dinner so, It's all gone. SADNESS! lol.
