Looking for a traditional St. Patrick's day dessert.

I am doing Corned beef, cabbage and soda bread for the family Saturday. I am looking for suggestions of what would be a "traditional" dessert.

I put traditional in quotes as I have been told that corned beef and cabbage is Irish American, more than old country Irish.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

A lot of traditional Irish desserts are apple-based. Try an apple cake, apple bread pudding, apple dumplings or apple pie.

They are usually very simple & homey, and not too sweet.

Adillo, do a search for Bambrach Bread. I posted it last year. It is dessert like well IMHO. You make it with dried NOT candied fruit that soaks overnight in strong tea and brown sugar. It has a short shelf life in our house.

So I used up all the stale bread in the house: 2 stale english muffins, 1 slice of sourdough, 1 dinner roll, 2 slices of multi-grain bread. Soaked it in the custard while I prepared the apple topping.

Sauteed the apple slices in butter, calvados (or apple jack) some brown sugar, raisins & nutmeg. Put it over the top of the pudding and baked it for 1 1/4 hours.

I made a wonderful calvados sauce to pour over each serving.
