Another corned beef score!

My family and neighbors when I was growing up always had "grey" corned beef for boiled dinners. Tastes pretty much the same, just not red from the nitrates when it is cooked. I think it might be a New England thing and my father prefers it.

As an adult, I saw only the red corned beef in stores, other than some local butcher shops that corn their own beef and charge a fortune for it.

Today, I saw this STEAL of a deal, right in my regular supermarket! A small, almost 3 pound FLAT, grey corned beef, for 99 cents a pound! Into the freezer it went for a New England boiled dinner the next time Dad gets to visit!

YAY!

I don't think I've ever seen corned beef packaged like that.
It's always in the mass produced packs with the little pack of pickling spices.
Unless I'm not looking in the right places.
