MGJ's Manhattan Style Razor Clam Chowder

1 pint razor clam meat finely chopped +juice
1 28 oz. can crushed tomatoes
1 medium onion chopped
1 clove garlic minced
1 1/2 cups chopped celery
1 1/2 cups carrots chopped
4 medium redskin potatoes diced
1 40z. can roasted chopped chilis ~do not drain
4 strips thick sliced bacon minced
1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes
1 tsp. dried thyme
1 bay leaf
3 cups water or stock
salt and pepper to taste

In a stock pot over low heat slowly fry the bacon to render the fat. Once it is crisp, add the onion and continue to cook over low hear until onions clarify. Turn heat up to medium, add celery carrots, garlic, chilis and pepper flakes saute for 2 - 3 minutes. Add remaining ingredients cover and allow to simmer 30 minutes stirring occasionally.
