Well, there really IS a first time for everything........
We saw that a local bistro had won "Best of Bucks County" award, so decided to give it a go............
I ordered Fried Pickles for starters.... the pickles were sliced way too thick for this dish to work. On top of that, they were left in too long and were very dark. When you bit into them, you got a mouth full of pickle and were left holding an exoskeleton of crust. ..... that said, I ate 'em !
There was a Filet Mignon Oscar on the menu. I saw this posted under the description:
"Your Filet will be butterflied and served medium, unless otherwise requested".
I ordered the filet Med.-Rare..... When the dish reached the table, the filet was seared well, but raw otherwise. So, here's the "first time" part.... I, for the first time in my life, sent a plate BACK to the kitchen. The Manager came over, apologized and said they were preparing a completely new plate. Great !
The Warden was finishing up her meal when mine finally arrived. The steak was closer to medium than medium-rare, but that was okay, much better than the blue meat I was served the first time...
With the Warden now finished, I took a few bites, then asked for a carry-out container.
The Warden's crab cakes were small, and dry, and might as well have been out of a frozen Mrs. Paul's box.
As the server was clearing away remnants of the meal, she informed us that dessert was on the house. We never order desserts when dining out, but we gladly allowed her to pack up two cheesecake slices for us to carry.
Lesson learned ; winning an on-line popularity contest does not necessarily equate to preparing a great meal
Note: As much as I enjoy Food Porn, my camera stayed on my hip... nothing to see here !
