Who Bought an I-pad Yesterday?

Initially, I didn't get it either. While I'm not of retirement age (not quite) I think it's a generational issue. As pointed out above, it's not a laptop, and not intended to be. It's not a telephone and not intended to be, thus no camera. One of my employees commented that he can't wait to buy one and curl up on his sofa with a good book. He's an avid online reader watching podcasts, getting his news, researching, etc. An iPad makes perfect sense for him. Another of my employees bought one to take into court with him. He can hit our website and perform anything from the courtroom that he could do from his desk, yet not as obtrusive as a laptop, lighter weight, and battery designed to last longer (only time will tell if they do). I think it will work very well for him too.

I'm dyslexic; don't read much. I have no plans to buy one, but I can understand the appeal to many others. If I was still active in the courtroom, I would be seriously considering one.

You're dyslexic, Warren? Kuddos to you for overcoming that burden to excel in a field that is based on volumes and volumes of written law. :applause::applause::applause:

A kindle is just as suited, and MUCH more easy to handle. The glare off of the iPad is terrible, forget about it on a nice day outside if you would like to read a book in the hammock, lazily whiling away the day. . .A net book, imo, is far more functional. This isn't anything against you, just pointing out that Apple has gotten REALLY good about telling people what they want, and up until this gadget, has filled a niche. This however, imo, does nothing more then separate an individual from their earned money.

As Alton says, it is a bit too much of a uni-tasker. . .

It's a toy for sure. I suppose there are some apps that might be useful in a computing sense, but that's not why I got it. I don't see it as a light version of a laptop as much as I see it as an upgrade to my smart phone, which I use all the time.

I admit that it would be nice to have a camera, and the lack of flash support is a big deal, but I like it as an e-reader, movie player, and lightweight web and social media browser that's more functional than my BlackBerry. Toys are made to be fun, and that's just what this is.

Rob, is there a data plan required with the iPad like there is with the iPhone? If so how much does it cost?

Doc, the WiFi/3G models will be out later this month, and they are $130 more than the WiFi only models out now. Looks like an AT&T data plan will cost $30/month for unlimited.

I like that they have some with WiFi only. That can fit many needs, and save folks another 30 dollar monthly bill. :thumb:
