We all take some pretty great food porn pictures with food we've prepared with the love of our hearts and hands....

Now, for something completely different.

We'd like you to plate the Swansons. Plate Mrs. Pauls. Plate Maria Callender. Plate Lean Cuisine. Plate Stouffers. If you have a soft spot for the home cooking from the frozen aisle, good for you...but can you take the time to present it on your nice dinner plate???

All you have to do is cook it according to the package instructions, and then plate it as though you were going to sell it for a hundred bucks.

You cannot add to the actual food content other than as a garnish. In other words, you cannot add meatballs to stouffers stuffed shells, etc. You cannot add a plate of fries to Mrs. Pauls fish sticks. You get the idea, yes?

This challenge will run to Sunday, September 19!!

Actually, these are pretty damned good!
The "salisbury steaks" TASTE like meat, like a freshly grilled burger in a really nice gravy.
The mac and cheese twisty pasta was delish too.

Here's my plated version, garnished with parsley and some Claussen pickle spears trimmed.

Oh this is going to be a real challenge for me, because we don't have ANY of that stuff here. I'll scour the freezer shelves at Walmart and see what I can come up with - or this may actually call for a trip to Costco in Vallarta (have to brave the scary bridge). If I don't find anything, I'll be perfectly happy to sit back and be entertained by the rest and best of you. Can't wait!

Ooooh, I'm in on this one! I have to buy something though since we don't eat any of that. Maybe the next one could be plating fast food?!

Good idea, Cheese!!

To all..if you don't have any frozen food, you can always use something canned - like spaghetti-os!!

Hmmm...can't buy spaghettios, either. I may end up with something very interesting. I'm off to shop.

Now this is a trip! What an incredible idea! I can imagine on some other site many a member would faint at the thought. :yum::yum::yum::yum::yum:

I'm in!

I've got a few ideas, but will have to go shopping first. Oddly enough, they had one of those family size Salisbury Steak dinners (about 3lbs - 6 steaks in gravy) on sale at Dollar General Market the other day for a $1.50. I just had to buy it for those lazy nights.

But, it's just the meat with no sides, so that won't really do for this.

Still, there are a couple of TV dinners that we do like, and eat occasionally, so I'll go grab them and see what I can do. Typically, I like one TV Dinner, and DW likes another, so I may be doing two entries at once!

How fun!

I have a question Vera. Can it be ANYTHING that is "prepared"? Frozen, canned or boxed? Like stovetop stuffing etc?

Back in my college days, this was a favorite dinner... Now I shudder to think of
the calories and such...

Slice of toast, 2 Swanson Salisbury Steaks, thick slices of cheddar cheese, sour cream, another slice of toast, cover with the gravy.
Eat two.

If you're going to make the stuffing, then what you plate can only be the stuffing, garnished in some way, nothing added- like a meat or vegetable.
If you purchase a frozen TV dinner, then you've got more to play with.

HMMMMMMMMMM Didn't your Mama tell you not to play with your food? LOL sorry just kidding!! Yes I understand that. I was just wondering if ALL prepared foods were included or just frozen and canned. Come to think of it I guess not because stuffing has to have something added to it never mind.

Well, the original idea was for frozen stuff, but it would be interesting to see what someone could do with a boxed prepared something, or even canned.

Mama hated me making tracks in the mashed taters with a fork..

Well there is one boxed thing I can think of that nothing is added to.

I surveyed the local grocery store this morning and came up empty. They did have a few boxes of "Smart Ones" dinners (some kind of noodles marinara) that looked like they had come around the horn (boxes dented, peculiar lumps you could feel inside the boxes). I did find some taquitos that were frozen, but I'd have to add something to that (salsa, guacamole, etc.) No such thing as a frozen TV dinner here - now that is probably a GOOD thing.

Did one of my favorites, the fried chicken dinner. Baked it in the toaster oven for 35 minutes - microwaving is bad for these, but the toaster oven really turns them out.

Garnished the potatoes with chives, and had a small bowl of clarified butter that I used on the potatoes and corn. Yum!

Won't beat homecooking or KFC, but it sure is edible, and rather tasty!

Oh, the brown thing is a brownie.

Looks good Keltin.
Don't you love how the brownie of all things comes out not looking like one at all?
