I couldn't think of an appropriate forum to post this one in. It's a dessert sauce, but not a custard.
This is a copy-cat sauce that I've come up with, so I can recreate the sauce Don Pablos served with their sopapillas. The Don Pablos here closed down, and was demolished, to make room for highway construction
Anyway, this is really freaking easy. Take 4 T whole butter and 4 T honey. Bring the honey to a boil, then add the butter and stir/swirl constantly until the butter is melted. You can do this over low heat if you want. Season to taste with salt (YES!). You won't need much, probably 1/8 t or less, depending on your taste.
Dunk your homemade sopapillas into this, or whatever else you can think of.
