Can yeast for bread making be frozen?
I agree. I also put my yeast in the freezer. I have used yeast that has been frozen for years and it was still good.I freeze it all the time. Just put it in a baggie. Will last for years.
I buy the Red Star in a brick of probably 2 or 3 pounds from Costco at around 3 or 4 bucks. I just empty it into a quart zip lock bag. I have never had any go bad, and a brick lasts way over a year for my baking.Okay - are you folks talking about the dry yeast that comes in little packets? I always like having that on hand, but rarely bake, so end up tossing the packets out unopened when they pass their expiration date.
If that's what you're talking about, would that enable me to keep the yeast past the expiry date?
