A classic favorite for dipping your chips in! It doesn’t get quite as firm as store bought, but it is delicious!

French Onion Dip

Ingredients

1 cup (8 oz) Sour Cream
1/2 cup Mayo
1 large Onion, finely diced (get a nice big one)
1-1/2 tbsp Olive Oil
2 tsp Garlic Powder
3/4 tsp White Pepper
Salt to taste (optional)

Procedure

Sauté the onion over medium-low heat until golden brown and soft - about 12 to 15 minutes (do not burn!). Remove from heat but do not drain. Allow to cool in original pan. Basically, you're caramelizing the onion.

In a medium sized bowl, combine sour cream, mayo, garlic powder, white pepper, and salt to taste. Mix well. Add onions and fold them in until thoroughly incorporated. Transfer mixture to Tupperware bowl or the original sour cream container. It will just barely fit back into the original sour cream container! Seal with lid and refrigerate overnight. You could eat it now, but it is better after the flavors have had time to meld.

Combine all ingredients in bowl and mix well.

Return to sour cream container and refrigerate for at least 12 hours.

God I love onion dip. I've even added it to mashed potatoes instead of milk/cream. My wife makes is about the same way Keltin and it is really good stuff.
