I made this yesterday, I enjoyed the result of the experiment.

1/2 a cabbage
1 onion
1 clove garlic
1/2 red pepper
sage
125g chopped bacon
1 cup of apple juice
2 tbs creme fraiche

Chop the onion and pepper. Sweat the onion, pepper, garlic and bacon.
Season with sage, salt and pepper.
Finley slice the cabbage and add to the pan. Stir through and then add the apple juice. Bring to the boil and then cover and leave to simmer for approx 30minutes.
Just before serving, stir the creme fraiche through.

This sounds fabulous, mini! (damn, I sound like Ina Garten)

Copied and saved.

But I've never used creme fraiche, let alone have it in my fridge at all times (as someone posted somewhere that she did).

You think sour cream would suffice? Probably add a little Slavic hint to your dish, but what the heck ... I'm half Polish.

Sorry Lee, I missed your reply. I used creme fraiche because that is what I had to hand. Sour cream would be a great sub.
