I don't know how I missed this - thank you for posting it, Angel! I was bursting at the seams, waiting for you to tell everyone!!!

BTW - I ordered $200 worth of the softest fabric you can imagine to make this baby some blankets. I'm just waiting on a name so I can embroider it on them.

We're working on the name, now that we can focus on just one gender. :a1:

DH and I are forming our own lists...once we've completed our lists, we'll get together and whittle it down to what we'll end up using. There are just so many awesome names to choose from.

Update: 23 Weeks

DH and I visited FM and the family last Monday. While we were there my stomach mysteriously hardened for no apparent reason. This had happen a couple times before, during my pregnancy, but since it didn't hurt I wasn't concerned about it...but I did make it a point to ask FM what it could be. Apparently I've been experiencing Braxton Hicks Contractions...

So THAT'S what those are...Interesting. Heh!

Other than that, we're getting more movement (both inside, and outside). DH got to feel our baby move for the first time early Sunday morning, and she appears to be getting more forceful as the week progresses. :bounce:

I got to rub the tummy, too, on Monday! I can't believe how big the baby is getting! I'm so anxious to meet this little one.

Angel (Newnork) looks wonderful, BTW. Definitely glowing like only pregnant women can.

Thanks! I think I look puffy and flushed all the time, but perhaps that's what the "pregnant glow" looks like. Heh!

DH and I can't wait to meet our new doctors on 1/25...this 4-week stretch between doctor visits is making me go through withdrawls. Hee-hee!

Thanks!

I am becoming less scared and more excited about giving birth. I have decided to just follow the baby's lead through the whole process. Now, if only she could tell me what she wants her name to be, I'll be set. Hee-hee!

I wonder how Dee's doing...

As the weeks go by I make sure to read up on Parenting Magazine (online) about what's happening each week (with both me and the baby). I read, last night, that at 25-weeks my uterus is roughly the size of a soccer ball. Wow, I guess I could be...I hadn't really thought about it like that. How interesting. :bounce:

Update: 29-Weeks

A week ago I took a routine Blood Glucose test through my OB's office. The test consisted of me drinking a glucose "juice" and then having my blood drawn one hour later. Within 24 hours they received my results, and my results were "abnormal". This meant I would have to take an additional, more comprehensive, Blood Glucose test (through an independent pathologies lab). Yesterday I took the "Three-Hour Glucose Test" after fasting for 9 hours (prior to the test) and an additional 3 hours (during the test). Nick came with me, which was so sweet...we had to get to the lab at 7:30am, and by the time we were done he was about an hour late for work (he'd already told them he would be, before-hand). They drew my blood right away, with nothing in my system, then gave me my glucose "juice" to drink...after I drank the "juice" they drew my blood once an hour for three hours. :glare:

This afternoon I was supposed to get a call from one of the nurses at my OB's office with the results of my "Three-Hour" test, but when I hadn't heard from them I decided to give them a call to find out for myself. The nurse said they did receive my results, and that I do have gestational diabetes.

Monday is my next OB appointment, and my doctor will be able to fully explain my results and what that means for the future of my pregnancy. We may also discuss treatment options and we'll set up an appointment with a gestational diabetes specialist to teach me how to manage my glucose levels and maintain a healthy pregnancy. Nick and I are looking at this as a push toward doing what we've been meaning to do for a long time now...eat healthier and exercise more. By the time she is born, we'll be set on our path toward healthy-living, and we should have no problem maintaining that diet and exercise after she's born. We're looking forward to the challenge.

I've never heard of gestational diabetes. It sounds like you and Nick are making good choices to protect you and your baby. You have very good motivation, for sure. Good luck.....I think you will do fine :flowers:

Thanks Cooksie. :bounce:

Apparently only 4% of pregnant women develop gestational diabetes, which is caused when a hormone (made by the placenta) creates insulin resistance. It only occurs during pregnancy (the 3rd trimester, more specifically, when the placenta is larger and creates more of the hormone involved) and will go away after our baby is born. If managed properly, there are no ill effects for the mother or child. Nick and I are looking forward to the challenge of maintaining a healthy lifestyle both before and after our child is born.

Awww, Angel. I am so sorry you have to deal with this. Although if anyone can do it - it's you and Nick! I am coming to see you soon and I plan on spoiling you rotten. (Since we can't eat cookies and cake, I guess we'll have to be content with shopping!!!)

Good luck with all this. Sounds like an extra challenge but keeping a close eye on eating habits is a good thing and can lead to good habits after the little darling is born. Plus, this will mean you won't gain as much total weight when means you'll be able to get back into your jeans sooner. (My daughter could not wait to get back in her comfy, good ole, jeans. :D)
