some of the statistic are a trifle difficult to accept...
like the food costs. according to the gubbymint (oh,,,,) median household income in 2015 = $55,775

6.4% of that = $3,569.60
that's
$297.47 a month

that'll get you checked out twice. I call fishy . . .

Well, it depends on how many in the household and how you eat. I would imagine that most of us on this forum spend more $ for food than your average family, though I do think that is a bit low regardless given how price of milk and other staples has gone up, especially lately.

indeed. those numbers come up in the 'stop wasting 40% of your food' discussions. it's really quite curious how low it is.

the "average household size" = 2.53 - making it $3.92 per day per person

true the collective "we" here, being more food oriented, probably do spend more - but under $4/day? that's a stretch. the "USA average" food stamp amount per beneficiary is $127.57

using average this-es and average that-es,,, the math and a trip to the grocery store just does not work. and we're not in an expensive area either.

$3.92 per day per person does not come close to what we spend at the grocery store ...and we eat out 2 or 3 times a week. For 2 people that = 235.20 for a 30 day month.

But ...Thinking about it a lot of what we buy at the grocery store is not food, but cleaning supplies, bags for trash, toiletries etc.
