In high school i worked in the tv repair shop for a Zenith dealer. The first wireless remotes were sound operated. When you pushed a button on the remote it struck a tone bar and the tv pocked up the sound and did the selected task. On/off, channel select and volume.

Friends parents bought a new color tv with the Space Command remote. They had a poodle wearing the appropriate vet and county tags. When the dog ran through the den the tv would go nuts! Changing channels off and on, etc. they had to put all the tags on one ring and the put tape between them to stop the noise. :pat:

1964, first year of color tv’s from Zenith.

Amazing. I didn't realize they had TV that long ago. Let alone this guy was smart enough to invent color. Wow.

Bairds and other earlier systems were mechanical involving rotating disks and flashing lights. Pulses were transmitted to the receiving end to coordinate things. Little blurry and slow but IT WORKED!

RCA, my previous employer developed the scanning electron gun that turned the process into electronic’s in the mid 30’s. No, I wasn’t in the lab that day so I didn’t get to help. I seem to remember tales of skullduggery involving some patents. I know that happened with FM radio and Edwin Armstrong. :whistling:

More than you ever wanted to know about how that picture gets to your living room.
