It was formed in a renovated gas station.
Elementary school buddies Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield opened their first
shop in Vermont in 1978. The company began distributing ice cream outside
New England in 1985.
In April 2000, Ben & Jerry's sold the company to Anglo-Dutch multinational food giant Unilever.
