Default Fall garden jalapenos are not hot???

Leni, Chilifarmer, anyone ....

Midsummer, the jalapenos on my two plants were hot as hell - I coughed from the fumes while I was cleaning them.

The peppers I've picked from mid-September to date are so mild that I sometimes leave the seeds and membranes in. Still mild!

Does the weather have to be hot for the peppers to be hot?
