Default Huge salad recall due to possible listeria contamination: Food and Drug recalls

CLEVELAND, Ohio-- A salad company is greatly expanding its recall of ready-to-eat salad, slaw and dip products because they might be contaminated with listeria, a dangerous foodborne pathogen, the company and the Food and Drug Administration said in a news release.
The Garden-Fresh products were distributed in 14 states, including Ohio, and include items as diverse as macaroni, potato, tuna, ham and pasta salads, spinach dips, fruit dips, salsa, and baked beans. Some of the brand names affected by the recall include Weis, Spartan, Portillo, Archer Farms, and D’Amico. You can see a list of all the items subject to the recall here.
Listeria is a type of bacteria that can cause a potentially fatal infection and is particularly dangerous to older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There were 1,651 cases of listeriosis (infection caused by listeria bacteria) nationwide from 2009–2011, and the infection was fatal in 21 percent of those cases.
In healthy people, the infection may cause fever or flu-like symptoms.

I have been following this as I got sick 3 times I ate some Amish macaroni salad I bought on Friday at Walmart. Not fun at all. Got a call back about 10 minutes ago from the local store in response to an email I sent them yesterday. She was following up on a call she got from corporate. Wanted to know if I wanted to file a product liability claim. Told her no, I just don't want others to get sick. I might just have caught some bug from the Amish I have been around a lot lately.

Here is the USDA recall notice of the same items

WASHINGTON, Sept. 25, 2013 – Garden Fresh Foods, a Milwaukee, Wisc.establishment, is recalling approximately 19,054 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken and ham products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

These products are being recalled in association with a recall by the same company of products regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A full list of products being recalled can be found on the FDA’s website here. Products regulated by FSIS bear the establishment number “EST. 17256” or “Est. P-17256” inside the USDA mark of inspection and include the following:

The products were distributed to retail and food service establishments nationwide. The problem was discovered through microbiological testing at the facility by FDA. FDA, FSIS and the company have not received reports of illnesses due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify theircustomers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at: http://www.fsis.usda.gov/wps/portal/...lls-and-alerts.

Consumers with questions regarding the recall should contact the company at (800) 645-3367. Media with questions about the recall should contact the company’s Vice President of Sales, Steve Mueller at (414) 645-1000.

I don't know about other WalMarts but the ones around here are bad about letting stuff that should be refrigerated sit out at room temp for long periods of time before putting it up. I quit buying anything that has to be refrigerated from them a long time ago.
