Default Gretchen 4/12/2003 - 1/15/2017

Passed away last night late just after I got home.
Knew it was coming, and never thought it could hurt this bad.
She was the best dog ever and I'll miss her tremendously.

Probably won't be around the forums for a few days.

Oh, Lorelei, I am so very, very sorry.

The "knowing it was coming" has always been the most painful, dreadful part for me.

I'm glad, though, that you shared so many wonderful photos of her with us!

Peace.

Lee

My husband hurts so bad after the loss of our Maine Coon that he will not let me have another kitty. He never had a pet before and this one really got to him. I'm not about to bring a helpless animal into a hostile situation.

Lolly, I am so sorry I know that pain, but, I do not kniw your pain, because, it comes from your own relationship.

If it helps, she will be with you in spirit, as Bear is with me. She passed from life into your heart. It is up to you to keep her memory close to you. She will be with you when you need her.

I lost my last pet, a shepherd, in 1977.... That was number three in my life, and I vowed I'd never have another. I haven't !

So sorry you have this to deal with.......

Thanks everyone, very much indeed.

Today I feel hungover from letting it all out last night.
Yesterday I had to go to work and try to be normal.

One day at a time.
I've been down this road before, but somehow this is very different, because she was very VERY special in my life for the last 14 years.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Never explain yourself. Your friends don't need it and your enemies won't believe it anyway.

I feel so sorry also. Been there done that and it's never easy. When it happened to me someone shared this for me. It made me tear up but it also helped. Hope it helps you Sass.

LEND ME A PUP
I will lend to you for awhile,
a pup, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and mourn him when he's dead.
Maybe twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call him back,
take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and (should his stay be brief)
you'll always have his memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.
I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowd life's land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take
my sweet Pup back again?
I fancied that I heard them say
"Dear Lord Thy Will be Done,"
For all the joys this Pup will bring,
the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
we'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known
forever grateful stay
But should you call him back
much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.
If, by our love, we've managed,
your wishes to achieve
In memory of him we loved,
to help us while we grieve,
When our faithful bundle
departs this world of strife,
We'll have yet another Pup
and love him all his life.
