i let mine sit out for 30-45 mins when i buy steaks i usually
get them about an inch and a half thick ...
i do not know if this is too long on the counter or not ..
That depends on your definition of BBQ (lol).
I'd leave it out about an hour. A lot really depends on how cold your fridge is and how warm the area is where you plan on leaving it out. But that's what I'd do.
I thought cooking outside would have covered both, but now we have a BBQ forum, too. Sometimes it gets tough trying to figure out which forum to ask something in for sure. As long as the food gets cooked! lol
