3 1/2 pounds trimmed, boneless beef chuck or sirloin, cut into 1 1/4-inch pieces
1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 bottle (12-ounce) dark, malty beer, preferably chocolate stout or porter
1 large onion, chopped
3 jalapeno chiles, chopped (remove seeds, if desired)
1/4 cups hot Mexican or regular chili powder
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1 avocado, pitted and diced
1/2 cup diced red onion
1/2 cup sour cream
Cilantro sprigs

1. In 5 qt. or larger slow cooker, toss beef with flour to coat; stir in beer, onion, jalapenos, chili powder, garlic, cumin, oregano, and salt.
2. Cover and cook on high 4 1/2 hours or low 7 to 7 1/2 hours, until beef is fork-tender.
3. Top with avocado, red onion, sour cream, and cilantro sprigs. Serve with cornbread, if desired.
