Happy Donut Day

Evidently the first Friday in June is National Donut Day. I may have to run out for a couple later.

Doughnut Day was started back in 1938 as a fundraiser to help the needy and to honour the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. Who knew?

Plain old "Old Fashioned" are my favorite donuts. Must have with coffee.

My Polish nana said that eating an Old Fashioned donut with coffee makes both things taste better.

She was right!

I love jelly donuts and apple fritters.

I love apple fritters, too. Last year, on the local sports talk radio, they had an argument whether fritters, long johns, and jelly filled were really donuts. Donuts were supposed have holes. I don't care, I love them all.

Yesterday afternoon I stopped at Safeway and got two long johns which looked good but the maple frosting was not very flavourful. The donuts weren't looking that good either. Our Top store had the best donuts but they closed.

My favorite is a glazed cruller.
