Grill-roasted Tri Tip beef

My BBQ buddies west of here are big on this cut of beef, but I can't find it.

Finally found a little one at Trader Joe's.

Prepared the charcoal kettle with coals banked on one side. Seasoned the meat with Adobo and some steak seasoning. Seared the meat directly over the coals for 4-5 minutes on each side, then finished it indirect to an internal temp of 125.

Let rest. Slice thin with electric knife.

Pretty good, but I don't see what the big deal is.

I love this cut of meat. Very tasty but tender only if you slice it thin across the grain. Could be the seasoning you used also. I use a Santa Maria style seasoning. Sant Maria is where this cut first became popular. I also smoke it with real mesquite. Since it is not popular back there you may not have gotten as good as we get here.
