My Gretchen used to jump inside a laundry basket and sleep there when she was a puppy all those years ago.
One day I found her firmly stuck inside the sleeve of a sweatshirt.
I miss her so.

Lol - Dachshunds are known to like tight holes because of their breeding. A sweatshirt sleeve :yum:. My mother's dachshund liked to worm down under the sheets and stretch out right along your body.

Yeah well, you should have seen me the first time I got presented with one of the rejects on the living room floor. I was like what in the f...... h... is this. I was not a happy camper when I finally figured out it was a sock.

OMG, the panties reminded me of the kittens at my dad's. His cat had kittens when I was staying with him (dementia) when stepmom was in hospital. By the time she got out of the hospital and rehab, the kittens were all old enough to be running around the house and playing, but not quite old enough to be weaned yet. SM had just come home and people were going in and out of the house to see her. I knew I was missing a pair of panties that I had dropped in the floor in the bedroom (they all slept with me) when I took a shower the night before, but figured they had dragged them under the bed during the night, decided I'd crawl under there and get them later after the day was done. Nope, they had deposited them under 1 of the chairs in the living room and 1 of my aunts had to announce to the whole room that somebody's drawers were under the chair. Two of the little buggers decided to come home with me and 1 stayed with momma.

:yum:

This is going to sound cruel to some of you, but I had to do something about him jumping up and nipping at me. I was starting to look like someone threw me into an alligator pond.

I tried telling him No and putting my hand out with splayed fingers, didn't phase him. I tried ignoring, didn't phase him. I tried getting down on the floor and calming him down, no go.

Finally I resorted to a spray bottle with water. After the first time I had to spray him, he cut it out for quite a while. He has needed one reminder in about two weeks. Now all I have to do is pick up the bottle, and he cuts it out immediately.

Surprisingly, he doesn't mind a bath. The hair dryer is a no go though, so I just dry him off with a towel and let him do lightning rounds through the house. He thinks the hair dryer and vacuum cleaner are aliens from hell that are out to eat him up and chew him to tiny bits. He goes into his King Kong mode when either comes out.

we have been looking all over for guanciale locally and couldn't find it. In my search, I had found a place that sold hog jowls from Mangalitsa and Berkshire pigs so I was going to get that and try my hand at charcuterie again. They also have waygu-black angus hybrid grass fed beef, as well as sheep, lamb, goat, and rabbit. They also have raw cow and goat milk. Surpringly very reasonable prices. It's a small consortium of farms up in central to north Florida that got together. They have a distibutor down here that vends in a large farmer's market and delivers larger orders on weekends. So, we took a drive down south a bit this morning. Went there first, then went to a place next door called The Italian Depot, and guess what they had. Yep, guanciale. So, now I have 3.7 pounds of hog jowl to figure out what to do with, plus 5 plus pounds of guanciale. Craig got a couple of lamb shanks, plus they also had various stone ground grains, including grits, which I got since I'm about out. The tomahawk steak they had out looked really good. I was hoping Craig would make that his choice, but he chose the lamb instead. Next time.

We also got some black cumin seed and juniper berries from the spice place, plus some different variety mangoes from 1 of the vege vendors. We passed by a place that had incense and essential oils and bracelets, so I called our DD. Ended up getting a whole bunch of incense for her and a new bracelet for essential oils. Way better prices than she can get online.

My son bought a house here, locally, so will be seeing more of our granddaughter. She will be in walking distance of all of her schools. I know the other grandparents are not pleased. He will be in walking distance of the train to Seattle where he works.

Today is just another day but thankfully the smoke has cleared out, for the time being.

How Precious..... God Bless Them.

Thanks Jimmy.
I think Elaina is going to be bigger than her big sister!
Well, I am missing them greatly this morning.

I've plans to relocate to where they are, but that's going to take a little time.
Already know several places where I can work until retirement.
Much to look forward to.

It's back to work for me today.
The weekend was superb.

Beautiful little girls. Enjoy them at this age as much as you can. They grow up so fast. Oldest GD will be 15 in less than a month, and the other 1 just turned 11. It seems like just last month they were just like yours.

I know this all too well, my eldest granddaughter is going to be driving next year.

I think I'll be lazy today, after I get my laundry done, clean the cat pan and mop the bathroom and kitchen floor.:yum:

Solar Eclipse

I ordered three rugs, all of which are coming from three different places. They were all originally scheduled to arrive on Aug 22. One was delivered yesterday. The other is scheduled for Monday. The third one was scheduled for Tuesday but got pushed back to Sat, Aug 26 .

When I saw the delivery date for the third pkg, I was thinking, WTH is going on. Fedex has always been really good about prompt delivery.

I *think* it may be because of the solar eclipse. The Fedex site has a banner announcing that they're closely watching the eclipse and doing what they can to avoid disruption, but the eclipse causing problems never even crossed my mind.

I read a couple of articles. One said that they're worried about heavy traffic from people traveling to see the total eclipse. That doesn't make sense to me because those drivers are used to delivering during the holiday traffic.

Another article said that the eclipse may cause problems with their scanners and cause thousands of pkgs to be sent to the wrong destination. That makes sense. I'm just wondering what else may get screwed up ?????

not much, except for the loonies going stark raving mad.

eclipses do not produce any kind of electromagnetic disruptions - so all the scanners going crazy etc is absolute horse stuff.

there is a remote possibility that the electrical grid will become overloaded/over taxed as a measurable portion of power comes from solar now-a-days.

we'll need a better conspiracy theory to explain your rug thing tho . . .

Harvesting in the garden; beans, peas, gooseberries and zucchinis are ready and on their way to the kitchen. I made very juicy gooseberry pie today. After that, I knitted new poncho.

I love gooseberry pie and haven't had one in decades.

We went to Walla Walla for the weekend and had some great food and wine. I've downloaded pictures but haven't set them up to post. We stayed in a guest house on a couple's ranch up a wooded canyon. It's wonderful venue and plan to rent it for a week one day. We saw tonnes of wild turkeys, deer (lots of bucks), and one bear by our cabin yesterday morning. Only JA saw it and it was a little one. I was glad it's mom wasn't around. More later, must get ready to view the eclipse.

I will watch the passing eclipse on the tv. I've seen a few in my life.
Right now.... Mommy T is at Mt. Airy Lodge in PA Pocono area to try her luck at the casino. She and a couple church folk drove there.

I am making macaroni salad. I will fry some onions and peppers to make cheese steaks.
I've got some thin sliced steaks in the freezer.

I'll give you horse stuff :). I think you're right, as usual. I called Overstock, and the remaining two pkgs are supposed to be delivered today. We'll see. The third pkg seemed to be stuck in the Dallas area, so maybe they combined the two deliveries into one. Who knows.

over the years we've seen just about everything and anything happen with Fedex, UPS, USPS / etc shipments. as good as their systems are - well, except for USPS.... - stuff does get lost / mis-routed / misplaced / mis-read / mis-scanned - onandon.....

otoh, you've got a real special case - it's a rug - it'll be non-life-ending if it takes two extra days. it's those one-of-a-kind-overnight-$150SundayAM delivery-must-have-at-0630- Monday packages that usually get lost . . . .

My son watched the USPS man park his truck in front of the ouse - then moved on - package was stated as delivered but the guy never left the truck. Of course they denied any wrong doing, so add thievery to your list. He has a camera mounted now.

Today am taking on-line classes so I can sub teach this year. At least I don't have to pay for them.

drank tonite-- looking to be inpatient soon-- apparently i got too thin; &, apparently-- oddly enough, they let me be @ my current wt. previously, sans griping 'bout that--

& my a/c won't quit ticking-- it's making me hide beneath my comforters to block its noise-- then again, that may well be rain or hail, seeing as to how i live in pgh-- our weather has mood swings--

Hope you are feeling better - I drank tonight too. I thought I'd grill burgers tonight. I was getting pre-made burgers out of the freezer and a frozen 4-5 pound chicken fell from top shelf and hit my little toe. I think I broke it. I gave up and the burgers and made soup. I'm medicated.

I bottled up 7 quarts of tomatoes - went to commissary and Class VI store and then watched Netflix. It was a dull day - tomorrow will make tomato juice.

I'll be starting a batch of Guiseppe's bolognese in a few minutes. It's a copycat recipe I came up with from an episode of DDD. Hopefully, I'll also be making some fig jam if the figs haven't gotten over-ripe. We bought them and I kind of forgot about them. :sorry: Dogboa has to char poblanos for me and then I'll start on our dinner for tonight.

Well, I only lost 6 figs to way over ripeness. All bagged and frozen in early a.m. It's really not jam, more like a loose preserve. We use it for a pizza with prosciutto and blue cheese, and also when we have a cheese plate.

My bolognese is all done, bagged and frozen. It's a multi-meat bolognese, ground beef, Italian sausage, ground turkey, chicken livers, and chicken thighs that get cooked whole, then shredded. My copycat recipe is still a work in progress, but this is the best batch yet.

We are having ash fall from the Crystal Mountain forest fire over towards Mt. Rainier. I closed up the house and it's already stuffy. It's to get to 98*F this afternoon, too. We have A?C in the bedroom so can always escape to there, if need be. Tonight will be pork kabob leftovers or tuna salad.

I'd be booking a hotel/motel room faster than a New York minute!

Good luck, JW!

We're starting to get an off shore flow and hopefully some rain to come in - no rain for 3 months - so air quality is improving. I'll wash cars this afternoon. They look terrible.
