Re: The Cutting Room Floor

This is an old pic. There was a thread on another forum about Morman food and some pretty wacky jello salads. It inspired me to make jello salad and Funeral Potatoes. I also made a jello salad...

Re: Store Brands

I swear by some name brands, others I' don't care about. Mostly, though, I stick to brands I know & like.

I always buy S&W low sodium beans (chickpeas, black beans, etc).
I can tell the...

Re: 10 healthy greens

I'd include parsley on that list. It's got a similar nutrition panel and my kids will eat it. It they know there's kale in the fridge, they'll peak in the kitchen just to make sure I'm not using...

Re: What's going in your garden in '11?

I did about 2/3 of my planting today: Tomatoes, Zucchini, Squash, Corn, Beans and tons of parsley & basil. I think its still a little cold for the basil, so I kept about half in the greenhouse. ...

Re: How do you keep varmits out of the garden?

I just found a possum the size of a raccoon on my fence. I sent my 17yo out with a big stick, but he'll be back. Squirrels are a big problem too.

Re: what to do with dried mushroom mix?

I don't like the texture of rehydrated mushrooms, so I rehydrate & mince them or grind dried mushrooms and put them in sauces. Shiitakes, especially, have a lot of umami and add a nice depth to...

Re: What's going in your garden in '11?

This year, I'm planting my peppers in pots. They don't grow huge like tomatoes and, at the end of the year, you can move them indoors (at least at night) to extend the season. Last year, I had a...

Re: Tuesday 4/12/2011, Whats on your plate?

I never have. I've been reluctant to invest the three years it takes to start baring stalks, knowing that I'll be moving in 4-5.

Re: Tuesday 4/12/2011, Whats on your plate?

I love asparagus season. I roasted two bunches last night and have another for tomorrow or Friday. We usually have tacos on Tuesdays. Today was no exception.

Re: What's going in your garden in '11?

Thanks for the link. I've got water tubs in it now. I want to end up with something modular that I can take down during the summer. This fall, I think I'll add a 2x4 wall against the back,...

Re: What's going in your garden in '11?

About a month ago, I built a greenhouse out of PVC, Duct Tape and plastic. It doesn't hold heat at night light I hoped it would, but it heats up well during the day and, at the very least, is a dry...
