seriously. lump Chesapeake crab meat is going for roughly $20/lb - jumbo is higher closer to $30.

I used to do four patties a pound, but found that five per pound cook better (tad thinner)...

yes. I like to lay stuff out on a large flat surface (cookie sheet, broiler pan, etc) in a thin layer and let them freeze overnight. then bag them. homespun version of IQF.

I picked up Alton Brown's method - it is simple, repeatable, never failed.
and, using a scale, I can make it predictable drier/fluffier or wetter to suit the dish.

if you roast it whole, try 325'F and pull it at 135'F measured in the middle.
depending on where you cut it, it may have a tapered small end - that cooks quicker - so 135 at the mid point will give...

yup - got everything sliced diced prepped lined up in the order of add...
I've tried the 'quick add something' routine - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
typically I go for the sizzle...
